Who can resist a good Quickie?

As If Theatre Company seeks 8 local playwrights to participate in this year’s Kenmore Quickies. To celebrate our 5th anniversary, each writer will be tasked to write a short play (no more than 10 pages) inspired by a prompt from the work of As If’s resident Sound Designer / Composer, William French. Playwrights will be randomly assigned their musical inspiration at the June 9th Quick-Off party. Pre-selected directors and actors will be randomly assigned to writers at this time.

Requirements include:

• play must be completely original and written within the timeframe outlined by festival
• writer must live within 60 miles of Kenmore WA
• play must be no more than 10-minutes in length
• PG-13 rating so that families can join in the fun of this festival

Writers must be able to follow the below timeline:

June 9, 2025 – Attend the Quick-Off party, where each playwright will randomly select their specific prompt, directors and actors will be assigned, and other mystery happenings. It’ll be a fun party celebrating the start of the festival.

July 9, 2025 – Final draft is due to As If Theatre Company for review and distribution to directors, cast and crew.

August 8-10, 2025 – Festival (not mandatory for writers to attend, but we’d love to celebrate with you!)

There will be a $100 stipend.

Interested playwrights should apply by submitting a short writing sample (preferably comedic and no longer than 10 pages) of either a short play or an excerpt from a full-length play, in a PDF format, by May 18, 2025. A panel of readers will review all submissions blind. Writers will be announced May 25, 2025.
