Kenmore Quickies – 2024

As If Theatre Company is seeking playwrights in the Puget Sound area for its 4th annual short play festival, The Kenmore Quickies – Location. Location. Location., which will feature 8 prompted short plays written, directed and performed by local theater artists. At the June 10th kick-off event, each playwright will be given a specific prompt from which to write a ten-minute play in a four-week timeframe. The festival will be a weekend of performances of all of the plays, with a winning play chosen by the audience. This year the prompts will be pulled from various specific locations in and around Kenmore, and each playwright will be assigned a different genre (comedy, science fiction, romance, horror, etc). All writers, directors and actors will gather at the June 10th “Quick-Off” event, where each playwright will be randomly assigned their location and genre, and directors and actors will be assigned to writers. From there, the writers will leave with their prompts to write their 10-minute plays to be delivered by July 7, 2023. There will be a $50 stipend.

Show dates/ times: Friday, August 9 at 7:30pm, Saturday, August 10 at 2pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday, August 11 at 5:00pm. All plays will be presented at each performance. The audience favorite will be announced after the Sunday performance.

Interested playwrights should apply by submitting a writing sample (preferably comedic) of either a short play or an excerpt from a full-length play, by May 22, 2024. All submissions will be delivered to the play-reading committee blind, so please only put identifiable information on the title page. Location.”, August 9-11, 2024. This year the prompts will be pulled from various specific locations in and around Kenmore, and each playwright will be assigned a different genre (comedy, science fiction, romance, horror, etc). Actors will be in two of the short plays. There will be a kick-off event on June 10, which is required for all participants (prompts, directors, and actors will be assigned at this time). Rehearsals will run 4 days a week starting on July 21, with four performances August 9-11 at the Kenmore Community Club (Friday, August 9 at 7:30pm, Saturday, August 10 at 2pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday, August 11 at 5:00pm). There will be a $50 stipend.

Auditions are Sunday, May 19, and Monday, May 20, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, at the Northlake Lutheran Church, 6620 NE 185th St, Kenmore, WA 98028. Actors should come prepared with two varying monologues, each under two minutes.

Rehearsals for directors will run 2 days a week starting on July 21-Aug 1, plus each day of tech week running Aug 4-Aug 8. There will be a $50 stipend.
