Who doesn’t enjoy a good quickie?

Celebrating our 5th year, As If Theatre Company was back and better than ever with The Kenmore Quickies – Play It By Ear! Eight playwrights, eight directors and 14 actors came together to bring their talents to the stage for 4 performances, August 8-10, 2025.

As we celebrated a half-decade of memorable play festivals, it was only fitting that we shone a spotlight on a true local hero: our resident sound designer and fellow Kenmore resident, William French. Each of the 8 plays were inspired by a piece of original music created especially for As If Theatre from one of our nine main stage productions.

At a rousing Quick-Off Party June 9th at Copperworks Distilling our local playwrights were randomly assigned their cast and director, given a limited number of props to use (or not use – we’re not monsters), and chose their mystery musical prompt. The playwrights were then sequestered for 4 weeks to devise their original script. Upon the deadline, the playwrights handed off their script to the director, and their cast to rehearse for 2 weeks prior to opening night.

Each evening, audience members voted for the Audience Favorite Award, which was presented after Sunday’s performance, while a panel of 3 judges will determined the Critics’ Choice Award.

Funny, serious, a bit strange, and downright weird are all adjectives that can be used to describe this event.  Plus one heckuva good time!

This popular event played at the historic Kenmore Community Club located right in the heart of Brewery Row, which backs up to the Burke-Gilman Trail.
