As If seeks 8 local playwrights to participate in the Kenmore Quickies – A Play on Art. Each writer will be tasked to write a short play (no more than ten pages) prompted by an art piece from a local artist to be determined at the June 2 Quick-Off Party. In addition, pre-selected directors and actors will be randomly assigned to writers at this time. There will be a $50 stipend.
- play must be completely original and written within the timeframe outlined by festival
- writer must live within 60 miles of Kenmore WA
- play must be no more than 10-minutes in length
- PG-13 rating so that families can join in the fun of this festival
Writers must be able to follow the below timeline:
June 2, 2023 – Attend Quick-Off Party where each playwright will randomly select their specific prompt, and directors and actors are assigned to writers. It’ll be a fun party celebrating the start of the festival.
July 7, 2023 – Final draft is due to As If Theatre Company for review and distribution to directors, cast and crew.
August 11-13, 2023 – Festival (not mandatory for writers to attend, but we’d certainly like them there)
Interested playwrights should apply by submitting a writing sample (preferably comedic) of either a short play or an excerpt from a full-length play, by May 17, 2023. Writers will be announced May 23, 2023*

As If Theatre Company is seeking 12 actors of all ages and gender identification/ presentation for their third annual short play festival, The Kenmore Quickies – A Play on Art, with performances August 11, 12 & 13. The 2023 festival will feature eight 10-minute plays written by local playwrights prompted by works of art created by local artists. Actors will be in two of the short plays. The plays will range from comedic to thought-provoking to a little weird.
There will be a kick-off event on Friday, June 2, which is required for all participants (prompts, directors, and actors will be assigned at this time). Rehearsals will run 4 days a week starting on July 23, with four performances August 11-13 at the Kenmore Community Club (Friday, August 11 at 7:30pm, Saturday, August 12 at 2pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday, August 13 at 5:00pm). There will be a $50 stipend.
Auditions are Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16, 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Kenmore Community Club. Actors should come prepared with two varying monologues, each under two minutes.
